Sign up for Air Canada's email list. They have sales every so often, departing from the US and flying to Asia via Canada. The reason is they run a bunch of flights every day to those places but Canada has 1/10th the US population so they offer low prices on trips originating in the US to entice Americans to fill the empty seats. I go to Japan at least once a year, and most of the time I fly via Canada due to price.
Np and I Agree. I’ve also flown non-Canadian carriers to Japan through Toronto.
That’s so interesting. I live in Toronto and Air Canada is usually the most expensive for Canadians! I think the message is to be flexible on the in and outbound and on exact dates for the flight and the carrier. One time it was actually the cheapest to fly back via Hong Kong and Cathay Pacific from Tokyo. It was the best flight ever in terms of service and food. So now I don’t focus on loyalty points as much for flights. I look for the cheapest flights via kayak.com or any other search engine and then I book directly with the individual carriers. If Air Canada has the best price, I’ll fly AC. The only restriction is I avoid flying through the US for the connecting flight — not worth the potential hassle.
