Can anyone talk to me about high schools, neighborhoods and country clubs? There are 3 main school districts in Austin: AISD - main urban school district. High schools include Austin High which is downtown and very diverse and also where all of the old school Austin $$ Tarrytown and Pemberton kids go if they don't go to privates. The school itself is meh but I love it for reasons that are hard to explain to transplants. More suburban HS are Bowie (Circle C neighborhood), Anderson (has IB) in the NW Hills area. Eanes ISD in the Westlake area of Austin. Eanes has one huge high school - Westlake HS. It is considered very good academically and in sports. One of the best in the state. Lake Travis ISD and it is sort of like Westlake though a little less money. Lake Travis HS reflects that. A little cheesier/suburban if you will. Is there a well-regarded, academically focused, private school in Austin or surrounds? St. Andrews, St. Stephens, Griffin (not traditional) are the 'best'. Also there is Trinity, Regents, St. Michaels which are fine, and then numerous other smaller ones. Or do most people go to public schools? I mean yes most go to publics just purely in numbers but the privates offer advantages just like privates anywhere (smaller, better college help, parent community.) we aren't sure if our last remaining child at home will want to do his last year at his private school here, boarding school, or at school in Texas. I mean I would not want to transfer my kid for his senior year so the above would be moot. Housing could be condo/townhouse or a SFH, but would like to keep the budget between $1-1.5mill. You could find something nice zoned for Bowie or Anderson in AISD at that price but they are in different parts of town and it really depends on the work commute. Could also find something nice in Lake Travis but so far out. Would be harder in Westlake. Would like to join a country club for tennis, golf is not a requirement. Westwood mentioned above is old school and you have to be connected. I would maybe look at River Place (North) or The Hills in Lakeway (Lake Travis). ACC and Barton Creek and Westlake are also difficult for unconnected transplants. What would be a good neighborhood for an older family who likes to run, isn't particularly 'cool', and doesn't know ANYONE in the city? Now that I have written all of this I realize I need to know if this job involves a daily commute or is half remote or whatever. There are plenty of master planned developments that could work like Circle C, Avery Ranch, etc. Just need more info.
