Our top stats kid wanted a D1 sports school, I wanted academics, and so we toured Northwestern. It was a disaster. Tour guide only talked about ski club, and every student we saw walking by on the tour had a scowl on their face. Even the gorgeous lake view with the sailboats couldn't convince my kid that everyone their hated their life. Our child didn't even apply after that
I just posted about my kid. We also had a similar tour guide. I was very turned off by school. By chance, DC had connected with an older kid from high school, so went to visit after the tour. DC ended up hanging with that older kid in dorm, went out that evening with the older friend from same HS. Got a very different impression about Northwestern. Generally, the tour guides at Northwestern are very artsy - not a bad thing, but not my kid's vibe. It was helpful to see the true "diversity" of the campus. My kid is a very happy (socially extroverted) freshman there now.
