[/quote] same- I was always very "american" but after the first trump election I am consciously making a connection to my grandparents culture for my kids and teaching them the language and and music and they use it to have a hyphenate identity. I do also think about the Japanese americans who were interned- they didn't all get up and move to Japan. we should take inspiration from them and how they retained their sense of american identity while going through such heinous racism, we should learn from their resilience.
