Renovating/rebuilding Wootton is expected to cost almost $300M--of which $0 have been allocated at this time. Using Crown as the new Wootton would mean that MCPS could save that money, minus whatever it would cost to keep it functional and safe for use as a holding school. Further, having a holding school in general would allow Magruder to be rebuilt faster and at a savings of over $100M. That is close to half a BILLION dollars in savings for taxpayers. In the name of fiscal responsibility, how could we choose to do this plan?
*edit: how could we NOT choose this plan?
I mean people seem to think that Black and Brown kids are taking money meant for them (actually the opposite happens every year) and the BOE likes to listen to rich people so that's why.
Our school is a dumb and far worse, but we know better than to complain and risk the school closing.
It kind of seems like the posters saying that the population at Wootton should have just been quiet and not complain, should've just stayed silent and be the "model minority". With Wootton always being overlooked for renovations and passed on for the CIP, one can't help but wonder and see the comparisons on how immigrant populations were at first regulated and confined in slums.
They want a brand new school so the best/quickest solution is to give them Crown.
I'm not complaining about the proposal. I'm complaining about the posters saying that the families and students at Wootton shouldn't have complained and should have stayed quiet. With some of the posters saying that other families go to older schools and just stay silent. There are maybe six schools last built/modernized in 1970, when Wootton was built, or before. So unless those posters live in an area that goes to one of those schools, they really shouldn't be telling Wootton families that they should have put with it and just be happy with it.
There are way more than six schools not remolded. We put up with it.
