I just listened last week to a school-wide poetry recitation assembly where I enjoyed 7th graders recite Patrick Henry's "Give me liberty or give me death!" speech.  I heard 8th graders recite from memory the St. Crisipin's Day speech from "Henry V".  I heard 3rd graders get through a very lengthy Rudyard Kipling "The Ballad of East and West".

From Kinder to 8th grade, I was wowed and awed.  The impression these works will have on these kids will last a lifetime.  Will they be remembered in their entirety?  No.  But sections and pieces will, and leaving an even stronger impression will be the feeling of the great accomplishment.  The mental toughness that was spent in preparation.

And I just know that for the rest of their lives, there will be a little birdie in the back of their brain, that will, when the time shows itself needed.... say quietly...."We few, we happy few, we band of brothers;
For he to-day that sheds his blood with me
