How would parents who’ve had kids at both RHPS and a DCPS school in the JKLM or Mann districts evaluate RHPS vs those schools? We’re trying to figure out whether to move. I’d specifically like to know about: - academics - parent community - # teachers in class - specials / extracurriculars during after school day
I doubt you will find anyone who personally moved from a home in CCDC or AU Park to Woodbine.
I've lived in Chevy Chase for 50 years. Tons of people move from CCDC or AU Park to Chevy Chase -- Woodbine or other streets. Also, people move from other parts of DC. I had kids at CCES, RHPS, MCPS magnet middle schools and BCC. They have cousins the same age who went through Janney/Deal/Jackson-Reed. Everyone turned out fine and went to good colleges. Each has their advantages. The Janney/Deal/Jackson-Reed path is more diverse (a benefit in my view) and gives kids more independence to get back and forth to school by foot or bike. Academically, MCPS probably a little better in terms of providing learning opportunities for gifted students (magnets, which we took advantage of). MCPS still sucks at providing IEPs and 504s to 2E kids, but probably not as much as DCPS. Honestly, find a home and neighborhood you like, and your kid will be fine.
