I have my eyes on getting our two properties paid off because I want to know that my kids (one college, one HS) will have a place to live that they own free and clear when I'm gone and they can't find work.
I prefer that my kids have investments that pay their yearly income forever instead of paid off house. Replace the income and then perhaps start paying mortgage from it. By 30, my kid will have enough in investments not to work and knowledge how we got that far. Had I bought my landlord's place, I'd be house poor and still working full time. There's so much work out there. My 18-year old works doubles. He was hire without any experience. I'm unable to retire, because we can't find workers.
