I doubt I will get used to the chime. It is a very large metal chime and it really does not sound very pleasant. I have heard chimes at my MIL's house in California that I did not mind, but this thing is annying. In the Spring, I'm going to buy one and I will hang it from the outdoor lamp by my front door. Their bedroom is right above it. I'm positive, it will resolve the situation. I'm not going to invest money in a white noise machine. Why should I? Doesn't make any sense to me.
I still think you should get a white noise machine. You are obviously having issues sleeping and looking all fat in your cranky pants. Honestly though I bet you will get used to them in no time. It's like moving from the country to the city, there's going to be some adjustment time to the noise. We moved here from England, not loud bustling London, but the country side. Our house is smack dab between 295 and 495 and there is traffic all day long. I only hear it when a semi hits the breaks or there's an accident, otherwise it's tuned out. Don't get me started on the quietness at my sister's house in Canada.
