It has to do with Republicans imposing their will on DC “because they can“. Even the stupidest ideas need to get pushed back on. Congress currently has something like 25 riders on appropriations with calling for things like removing the no right turn on red law that just passed to changing names for Kirk and even Cuba! Even if you like some of the proposals, it is up to DC’s government not Congress. That’s the whole point of these proposals.
