I have a high-performing kid, and we opted for our IB middle school for logistics, community, and because I liked the school and knew other kids who had been happy there. I presume we’ll have no problem getting into a select HS (and for me that doesn’t have to be just SWW), but I’m also intrigued by Eastern and we’ll take a close look at it once it’s time, but from what I know now, I think my kid would do just fine there in the EPIC/IB program.
That's great! Seems like the EPIC/IB program is a game changer. DCPS, now do all the Cardozo high school feeders.
No, the IB program at Eastern is really in name only. It’s not real IB or rigorous. The only 2 schools that really do IB correctly and have decent IB scores in this town are DCI and WIS.
Are they authorized by IB? They have to go through a review process every few years to maintain their IB status.
Both Eastern (https://easternhighschooldcps.org/apps/pages/index.jsp?uREC_ID=457251&type=d ND Ahttps://www.ibo.org/school/049200/) and Banneker (https://www.ibo.org/en/school/001318) are authorized by IB. It is my impression that at Banneker more students go the AP route, which may make the info/input on the IB progrram harder to find. At Eastern, the number of students getting the full IB diploma has increased in recent years and had been quite small in the past.
