After suffering through keeping up with the fastest trajectory and tutors we finally relented and slowed down the math progression for my youngest. Honestly now that I have a kid in college, I am not sure it was worth it. Repeating calculus as a freshman and the class is harder than in HS (advanced calculus). In my view, focusing on statistics is likely more useful today than the advanced tracks if not pursuing computer science or engineering.
It sounds like you pushed your kid to be accelerated in math when your child simply wasn't cut out for it. I know a married couple who both have math/cs degrees. They pushed all of their kids to excel and accelerate in math, and all but the youngest were up to it. Unfortunately the youngest just wasn't a math genius like the rest of the family but he was pushed into the accelerated tracks anyway. HS was very hard for him compared to kids whose parents didn't push as much. He works in theater now.
