ADHD is actually a misnomer. If someone has this condition and is really interested in something they can easily focus on do the work, the medication is not needed for those activities, it is necessary for the tasks that are difficult for them to initiate- doing 'boring' assignments without using procrastination to fear in not getting the work done, so use that motivation to do the work last minute. It is paying bills on time. The first time my daughter took her medication at the tiniest dose she said her brain was quiet for the first time- it was like she had static constantly in her head. People with ADHD have brain circuitry that is not connected at the same rate as those without ADHD, proven by fMRI scans so they have to use different circuits to do the work. It is likely why they are often seen as out of the box thinkers. It is too bad that you aren't able to be open to this as a real diagnosis, but we all have our limitations, maybe yours is compassion for people who aren't like you. If you truly want to understand this better, and you opened this thread OP to learn and not be snarky, see YT videos by Russell Barkley.
