I attended an Ivy as a white working class kid on financial aid. My Black roommate whose parents were professors at a prestigious SLAC applied for and received numerous “minority fellowships.” Privileged people of color still encounter difficulties caused by racism that I will never be able to fathom but the first gen students of color were not even informed about those fellowships, they were stuck at work study jobs in the cafeteria.[/quote]
