I think an aviation program is a good idea (and I don’t think most of FCPS ideas are good ideas). We have a nationwide shortage of pilots and air traffic control and this is a good market. Why the hate about this? Seems better than some sports marketing or journalism magnet??
I've no problem with an aviation program--though I think a more general mechanic program might be more helpful. Those skills might transfer to aviation. After all, aviation and aerospace have many areas of expertise needed. What is the purpose of this school? When I was growing up, there was a vocational school with an upholstery program. That, too, could be useful--though not likely as needed. But, this is not the school for that. Yes, it is close to Dulles--but so is Westfield and Herndon which would both have far more space for it and would make far more sense. I don't know how they can consider a magnet at this school when there is such a great, great need for a community base school..
