I used to work for an agency that managed many of the alpha male influencers and I actually dated one about 20 years ago (long before he was an influencer, obviously). The interesting thing is most of them actually start off wanting to help people. Many of them started as fitness trainers. But the way algorithms work now, content that gets the most engagement gets shown to more people. And what we figured out is that if you say controversial things, people argue in the comments, and it goes viral. As far as why boys and young men get sucked in - most boys today don’t have good male role models. Of all the men I have ever known throughout my 40+ years, I have only met one who said that he believed it was his responsibility to demonstrate to his children how men should treat women, and he took that responsibility very seriously. Most men see their wives as a ball and chain, someone to cook and clean and provide sex, not someone they are to cherish and respect and care for. Most men see children as little more than pets and don’t do much beyond providing a paycheck. They don’t teach their sons how to care for themselves, care for other people, be a functioning adult. So boys grow up without a good role model, and these alpha males step in and offer that. They *do* teach boys about women, finance, fitness, etc - all things they should have learned from real men in real life, but those men all dropped the ball. As an example, one of the most viral posts I ever did for an alpha male influencer was him breaking down his bank account and autopay system - basically what percentage of his money goes where, how he pays bills, etc. And guys loved it! Because nobody ever taught them these very basic things, like how to set up bank accounts, pay taxes, how much to save and invest, etc. Before modern times, boys and young men had all of the men of the tribe to mentor them, teach them, set an example for them. We had rituals and ceremonies that brought them from boyhood to manhood. We don’t have those things anymore, but boys still need them.
