A high neck like the one on the dress you posted is the worst for a large bust. Try a V neck or other neck that comes to a point (like a button down, sweetheart, notch neck, etc). FWIW, size 8 is not big compared to the average American and early 50's is not necessarily time to start dressing like a grandma (unless you want to). Some ideas below.

DP. The suggestions are kind, but I like OP's original choice better than any of these. The first one is decent, but reads very old to me. The second won't work if you truly have a large bust. The third is bordering on casual.[/quote]

Totally agree.  Personally, I love the dress OP chose and think she should wear it.
