Michigan! They over enrolled off the waitlist. it's now the largest freshman class ever. My son has two friends who don't have housing--the weekly update is "we don't know it yet-keep checking back."
Michigan is constructing a 5 building residence hall. https://record.umich.edu/articles/new-residential-quad-adding-2300-beds-more-planned/
That is a year behind schedule: https://umaec.umich.edu/projects/major-projects/new-central-campus-residential-development/project-details/
Regardless, Michigan will have significantly more dorm space in 2026-2027 than it has now.
Yep. Lots or on-campus and student-centric off-campus housing under development in Ann Arbor. This fall has 1200+ new beds in new high off-campus buildings, Verve and Legacy. Fall 2026 brings 2300 new beds in new Umich dorms, as mentioned above, and 600+ beds in new off-campus Hub William. Fall 2027 brings 2500 new beds in three off-campus buildings, Rambler, Chapter, and Hub Packard. Fall 2028 brings 1500ish new beds in two more off-campus buildings, Galleria and 625 Church. So 8000+ new beds in four years should take some pressure off the student housing market. The status of Phase 2 of Umich new dorms (adding another 2200 beds) is still up in the air. Umich has started fencing off the perimeter and presumably will be starting demo soon. Rumor has it something will be announced in August.
Rumor by who.. Glad to see Michigan finally building after decades of neglect
