Family of 6. Sometimes we get a 2 or 3 bedroom condo. When we cruise, we always get 2 cabins; sometimes we split 3/3 and sometimes we split 2/4. When we stay at hotels in Europe, we typically split 3/3. When we stay at an Embassy Suites or comparable hotel with 2 beds plus a pull out couch, we don’t get an additional hotel room. If there’s no couch, then we get two rooms. When driving, we always bring an air mattress in a duffel bag just in case someone opts to crash separately. (These days it’s a trifold Milliard foam sleep mattress in a travel bag—far more comfy than an air mattress.) I can’t imagine getting two hotel rooms for a family of 3—especially a teen girl who seems uncomfortable being alone. You might consider inviting a friend to join you and having the two girls stay in their own hotel room (or a cousin).
Same here for our family of 6, with kids 14, 14, 12, 7. We've even gotten (and love) getting private hostel rooms with ensuite where we're all just in one room with our own beds and one bathroom. It's never been a problem. DD 14 has started asking for her own bed and we usually can figure that put.
