New tires.
Dh got me this a few Christmases ago
How is this a gift? This is something that, as any household expense, is budgeted for and taken care of sooner or later regardless, no? I mean, how is this any different from getting a new fridge or a new bed? Doesn't the whole family benefit from it? Doesn't seem very "gifty" to me. It would be the equivalent of getting a new dishwasher. Unless it's from someone that is not benefiting from it, it's not really a gift, IMO.
New tires and other necessities can be a gift for those with very tight budgets.
I'm sorry, we live on a very tight budget and this is why having tires be part of expenses and not a gift even more important. When you are on a tight budget you don't get a lot of gifts as it is. I would much rather have a less expensive gift that is for ME than a new set of tires that is a necessity. It's the PP who suggested a partial mortgage payment. Sure, if someone that doesn't live with you gives you that, that's awesome. But your husband announcing "hey, this year your Christmas gift is gonna be half the mortgage!" wouldn't be a very popular choice, I'm guessing.
