I am maybe a rare case but I much preferred daycare to a nanny. But by the time we switched to daycare it was my fourth child and she was three, so not the same as a baby. We could absolutely afford a nanny but my personality is not well suited to manage a person and my job was not well suited to deal with a nanny's last minute cancellations. And I hated sharing my house (I WFH and felt trapped or like I had to tiptoe around at lunch) and hated sharing a car with the nanny - ended up buying a third car for my convenience.
