Yes, because kids don't get to pick their strokes for the A meet, plus there's IM. My daughter had to swim breast for years because no one else could. Her only chance for fly was the B meets.
+1. DS is the fastest back stroker in his NVSL division but never gets to swim it at A meets because he is also fast at fly and breast, and that’s what the team needs.
Yes, this is why it is sometimes hard for swimmers on the bubble for All-Stars to know which events would be their best shot. There are hosts of swimmers who haven’t even swum some events in A meets all summer (so their times are not in mynvsl), but will absolutely pick that event for divisionals. (And knowing who will swim IM is a crapshoot, at least in NVSL.) For anyone whose child is in this predicament, I highly recommend you cross reference club times in one of the databases too.
Don’t the coaches pick the lineup for divisionals? The swimmers don’t choose.
In many instances, the same 2-3 kids will be top of the ladder in all 5 events. Since they can each only swim 2 events at Divisionals, our team's policy is that the swimmer gets to decide which 2 events they'll swim. Some kids will base this on where they'll have the best shot making All Stars (but as others are pointing out, the fastest kids may not even swim those events until Divisionals, so the NVSL data is limited). Otherwise, Divisionals is based on the ladder, as it's not a team-based meet.
