10% seats should be reserved for FARMS students who can attend Whitman from anywhere without MCPS providing transportation. Not sure if spots will be taken but it can work and add much needed diversity to Whitman.
How do you think kids will get there who are farms. Be real. And, that would not work socially. Use the money to enhance the dcc schools.
no you have to integrate the schools. social integration (if kids from different neighborhoods mix) has no bearing on this process. the schools have to have equal percentages of FARMS kids.
That is poor goal. Reminds of narrowing the ahchievement gap goal by MCPS(horrible goal), goal should have been to elevate all kids. Even if everyone went up by 10% with same achievement gap, it will be a fantastic outcome.
that's the BOE's goal. Why do you support ongoing segregation?
No one is supporting segregation. You attent the school where you live. If it's in mix area then MCPS should try to balance FARMS in those schools. Trying to bus kids all around county to feel good is simply nuts. That's not going to help kids. I grew up in high FARMS area and I would have hated to be bused 40 minutes away.
kids are resilient. they'll be fine.
