"stock" characters in every office. I have met them all through the years, just the same person with a different name: - the "nobody works more hours than me" champ. Yet every time I am on an intense project, never see them around - the "I haven't taken a vacation day in 10 years" annoyance. Good for you, bro. - the person who says when you come in at 7:30,"oh, here's the afternoon crew". - and OPs case, the person who sends emails on weekends or an insane hour to show how dedicated they are and how deficient everyone else is. OP, through life and endless corporate games, you have to let those people stop getting in your head.
I worked with one of these. He was 65, slow as molasses, often struggles to get up from his desk without audibly groaning. He's pathetic. He used to do this weird thing where he refused to be the first person to leave at the end of the day. He just NEEDED the boss to see that he was first in, last out, even if his work product sucked compared to others. Such a dinosaur mindset. So I used to mess with him. We worked on the 3rd floor in a non elevator building and he could barely handle the stairs. So at the end of the day I'd get up, grab my stuff and say "see everyone tomorrow!" and walk out. Then I'd wait on the sidewalk until he came out- always three minutes later- and then I'd say "Crap!, I forgot to finish out that last email" and I'd bolt back up stairs. It just killed him because there was no way he was climbing them again. Then I'd play on my phone for 5 minutes and leave again. Beat these losers at their own game, OP.
