I don't think anyone is okay with the attacks that happened on law enforcement officers on J6, so your argument kind of falls flat. The issue with the J6 prosecutions is they had people serving literally years in jail on trespassing charges (not assault-- trespassing). This is hard to justify on its own, but then there's some circumstantial evidence that some of them did not understand they were trespassing (eg, guards waved them in, gave tours, etc). Under no circumstances should this be equated with being okay with violence against the Capitol Police or any other LEOs. People who assault our public servants should be prosecuted fully and should not receive any public sympathy regardless of what political side they claim to support.
You're a nutter and unpatriotic.
+1 traitor — the police were not effing giving tours that day. People were scaling the walls and going through windows. There crossed police barricades. Anyone climbing through a window knows they were trespassing. It was obvious and you know it.
If I'm right and your wrong, what does that mean about your information environment?
Absolutely no one walked into the Capitol building on January 6th unaware of what they were doing. No one.
Watch the tapes and draw your own conclusions. I saw video of the Capitol Police waving their arms in a welcoming gesture. Which is what police training at the time would have favored-- deescalation tactics. Remember that these police spent the summer before guarding the Capitol during the BLM riots and were instructed to deescalate. That's what they did on J6 and it was good police work. But to the protesters, being waved in and given a tour could absolutely be mistaken for being welcome. In any case-- even if I were wrong on this point, which I'm not, there's a huge difference between trespassing and assaulting LEOs. People who assault LEOs should have enhanced prison sentences.
Dp here. Can you post a link to the videos showing LEO giving them a welcoming wave followed by a tour? Because from everything I have seen, there is absolutely no way someone walked in there and thought it was a-ok.
I'm not going to do a deep dive to find the wave, but this video shows that the police were allowing entry. Seeing the videos were enough to convince me that a reasonable person might be confused. And it's not like the Capitol is private property-- people are allowed there under certain circumstances, and the sitting president told them "go to the Capitol." https://youtu.be/evRIetWVqQk?feature=shared In any case, you're getting distracted by the veracity of the trespassing claims when really what you want to say is that its okay to assault ICE agents and that the fact that cops got assaulted on J6 provides a sort of cover for the current violence against ICE agents. Do I have that right? Also, since other people robbed banks before, would that justify me robbing a bank?
I’ll play along and say that some of the posters thought they were on a tour. Should you touch things on a tour? Should you bring a noose? Should you try to break into non-tour areas when you are on a tour? Should you carry a weapon? Bring pipe bombs? Should you try to sit at someone’s work desk while you are on a tour? These are things I would tell my preschoolers to do: Look with your eyes and keep your hands down. Follow directions. They do it. Adults should know how to behave on a “tour.”
