I don't think anyone is okay with the attacks that happened on law enforcement officers on J6, so your argument kind of falls flat. The issue with the J6 prosecutions is they had people serving literally years in jail on trespassing charges (not assault-- trespassing). This is hard to justify on its own, but then there's some circumstantial evidence that some of them did not understand they were trespassing (eg, guards waved them in, gave tours, etc). Under no circumstances should this be equated with being okay with violence against the Capitol Police or any other LEOs. People who assault our public servants should be prosecuted fully and should not receive any public sympathy regardless of what political side they claim to support.
You're a nutter and unpatriotic.
+1 traitor — the police were not effing giving tours that day. People were scaling the walls and going through windows. There crossed police barricades. Anyone climbing through a window knows they were trespassing. It was obvious and you know it.
If I'm right and your wrong, what does that mean about your information environment?
Absolutely no one walked into the Capitol building on January 6th unaware of what they were doing. No one.
Watch the tapes and draw your own conclusions. I saw video of the Capitol Police waving their arms in a welcoming gesture. Which is what police training at the time would have favored-- deescalation tactics. Remember that these police spent the summer before guarding the Capitol during the BLM riots and were instructed to deescalate. That's what they did on J6 and it was good police work. But to the protesters, being waved in and given a tour could absolutely be mistaken for being welcome. In any case-- even if I were wrong on this point, which I'm not, there's a huge difference between trespassing and assaulting LEOs. People who assault LEOs should have enhanced prison sentences.
?????????????????? You must be kidding. They assaulted LEOs and were responsible for several deaths. Do you have no respect ?
I've talked to actual Capitol Police who were there that day that I know socially. They were in a tough spot and followed their training, which was to be warm and welcoming to the protesters. And the tapes, which you can watch for yourself, corroborate what they have said about this. Go ahead and pull up early threads here on DCUM about this very issue. The left noticed how chummy the Capitol Police were and in the immediate aftermath, were calling the Capitol Police traitors who facilitated the incident. They were calling the Capitol Police right-wing extremists based on these clips. Right here on DCUM. Look it up. People's memories have been distorted by time.
You are a liar. Our neighbor was there that day, and for days after, and he was traumatized. He was a shell of a man for weeks after and slept at a hotel downtown. I cannot believe you are suggesting that police were inviting people in the Capitol. Just come on in through the windows, guys. Poop on any desk you like. No need to bag check that confederate flag.
It was absolutely traumatizing for the police. We are in violent agreement about that. However, the fact remains that they did what they were TRAINED to do, which is to be welcoming. I'm in no way claiming that they enjoyed the situation or that it wasnt horrific for them. And my Capitol Police friend was extremely shaken for months. But I am able to understand that if people are welcomed in, they may not understand they are trespassing.
You are exhausting and still a traitor. People knew they were trespassing. GMAFB!
What if they didn't though? What would that mean about how the prosecutions played out? In any case, it's irrelevant to the central question posed by the OP. The OP asks, since cops were attacked on J6, can liberals attack ICE agents and everyone just look the other way? The answer is no. Just like people in J6 spent years in prison for trespassing, the people who show up at these protests and take a single wayward step into an unauthorized area can expect to spend years in prison for trespassing. And those that assault, kidnap, or interfere with ICE will receive even harsher punishments, hopefully in a Salvadoran prison.
