People in this thread are weird. 20902 (Wheaton) is about 38% Hispanic, which is about the same as zip 22041 in Falls Church (37%). Manassas in Prince William County (37%), Sterling in Loudoun County (33%), and zip code 22305 in Alexandria (38%). Maybe the posters aren't as familiar with those other areas because Wheaton is someplace they've actually been to. Because Wheaton is actually a good place to live and visit.
I saw https://www.maryland-demographics.com/wheaton-demographics "The largest Wheaton racial/ethnic groups are Hispanic (43.4%) followed by White (22.6%) and Black (19.6%)." Leaving 15% for Asian and the rest https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Falls_Church,_Virginia Falls Church 68% White, 10% Asian, 10% Hispanic, 4% Black
Falls Church is very big, so an appropriate comparator to Falls Church would be Silver Spring (which encompasses Wheaton). Here's an example comparing two census areas: https://www.census.gov/quickfacts/fact/table/sevencornerscdpvirginia,wheatoncdpmaryland/PST045224 Both areas are around 40% Hispanic. The people above who said 95% were making that up.
95% is exaggerating it but you're overlooking that census data is a few years old and not always reliable. Wheaton will have a large population of illegal migrants and everyone knows there's plenty of 10-12 people sharing a 1,000 sqft 1950s rambler in Wheaton. There's going to be a lot of transient migrants not captured in the official numbers. That's why the perspective of Wheaton being 95% Hispanic is probably closer to what's really going on than the official data.
If you've been to the other areas I mentioned that are 40% Hispanic, it's the same story. Having lots of people in small living areas is not a phenomenon that is isolated to Wheaton, and those other areas have lots of illegals also. It could well be that the census data is more reliable for Wheaton than for the other areas; we really have no clue.
