Not all positions have private sector options (and a lot of people are not interested in that) but a lot do. I just regret not starting at my FinReg sooner to have that be more of an option. My ideal would have been to go into industry for a few years then come back to the agency with an enriched understanding. I’m probably a little too old for that plan but still super content with how my career has turned out. The key I think is to get into an actual regulatory area where you are working directly on the substance of the industry as opposed to an agency support function like privacy or FOIA (unless that is your jam). Enforcement is (for me) too stressful and less proactive than I prefer. I don’t want to be punishing people - I want to be helping to set up the rules of the road so they work. [/quote]
