A lot of VA players commute to Bethesda because of the exceptional coaching and top Level opportunities. The top players for that age group were understandably there for one of the best coaches in the region today and have decided to depart because they are not as familiar with the new MLS next coach. The established coach is a magnet for anything he doe and what matters is he is staying at Bethesda, just not with that group. However the new coach seems amazing and we will be staying to see what he’s like- quality of coaching anywhere can be uneven and there are always unknowns but he is highly accomplished and like PP said MoCo to VA is a hard commute. It’s of note that kids that can’t make the top team at Bethesda do head to NVA, Alexandria, Achilles or cross the alphabet to Pipeline or Arlington. Bethesda is moving some highly skilled kids up and will attract top talent no matter what- their bench is pretty deep. They don’t move kids up or in without merit.
Then why have Alexandria and Achilles FC both been ranked considerably higher all season than Bethesda in U13 QoP, and why is Alexandria ranked higher in U14 QoP?
It is because of the BSC super talented, best in the region coach :). Who understands a bit in soccer development and knows him understands what I mean. No one asks a question why BSC u15-17 almost do not have kids(replaced) who he developed u9-u12. He uses them and destroys many of them especially physically(5-8miles run at the age of 8-11, intensive stamina training) and mentally(kids become robotic and cannot adapt to new style). He improves technique though. That's why u13 team is like that.
That sounds miserable. I feel for the players.
You realize these are the kids who year after year threaten to leave the club if they have to play for a different coach? 2012s and 2013s, for last 4-5 years, and have now actually done so? They must really hate it.
