SYC GA is a long way off from where the parents thought they’d be.
There is a skill difference between the U19-U15 GA teams -vs- the U14-U10 GA and Pre-GA Teams. The order teams are fine, but younger teams are on fire!!! I don't think that sentiment applies across the board at all.
Even younger teams are not what people think they are. SYC is a mid club at best but they think they can compete. That is the reality.
SYC's biggest issue will be structure and organization. They just don't have the resources to run a top tier club compared to Arlington, VDA, Rev, etc. Strong player pool U13 and below but will it hold over time is a big question.
Well intentioned leadership, boisterous but solid parents, and great development of u-littles. But yes, the infrastructure is poor and not likely improving becuase SYC is ultimately a youth organization that supports a myriad of sports and actvities. All though soccer program is huge and throws its weight around it is not a priority like REV GA is for the Rev soccer business group; and Springfield economically is not Arlington so its facing two major hurdles compared to those tow teams refernced. Give them time they will figure it out but they have to be sweating a little. The first test was could they make the playoffs. One team did, the youngest of the GA group 2012s. They will serve as the water mark for where SYC GA goes for the next 5 years at least.
Really hope they go out west and make some noise, I can't even remember a time that a local club with a young team that's played together for a while has made an impact nationally. There's been success recently with FCV 07's as an older group but I can't recall a group below U15 doing a lot. Arlington came close last year as a U13 team.
The VA blinders are real. BSC ECNL '10s final 4 at u13, final 8 at u14, and likely knocked out at group phase this season at u15. Declining output but very solid last two seasons nationally. VDA '09s are only hope this year... Also in the running but not really- VDA 10s, Union 10s, Arlington 11s and BSC 11s
This guy knows. It's not easy to compete nationally and SYC will learn that. Their 12's might have learned that in their performance against SJEB.
For VA based teams, VDA 2009s do have a legit shot to win it all. They are really good. Richmond United 2009s didn't make it out of the group last year, but in the two prior years made it back and went to the Final 4, losing to winner PDA in their U14 year. If the get a decent placement in the group, they could make a run. Their 2012 squad is pretty strong as well. Ahh, the joys of youth soccer.
