Most people spend thanksgiving with their family.
Entire families go to Disney together.
Sure, but most families aren’t going to Disney for thanksgiving…which is why you see posts saying they were surprised Disney wasn’t crowded on thanksgiving. Fwiw, Disney wasn’t crowded on Easter Sunday either. Because, again, most people are celebrating Easter rather than going to Disney that day.
That's not what the crowd calendars suggest: https://magicguides.com/wdw-crowd-calendar/ I would never ever agree to this trip. It's just not worth it.
Okay. I guess most of us have only ever been to Disney during the most crowded times because we aren’t inclined to pull kids from school or travel to FL in the miserable summer heat. And for those of us who have actually been there on the most crowded days, we can report it’s still do-able.
We've been at various times. Late fall (so November) and late spring (after spring breaks conclude) have the best weather and that helps a lot with the walking. But it's gotten harder with all the races and competitions to find a crowd-less time. If you have preschoolers or very young ES, you CAN take them out of school without consequences, and I would recommend early-mid November or early May. Early September is least crowded, but it's hurricane-prone and still hot and humid. I wouldn't take them out of school after 4th-5th grade, unless your kid is way ahead. And conscientious kids will have FOMO about missing school. Last year we fretted about taking DCs out of school in early Jan (tacked on a few days and took advantage of some FCPS "O's,") but the winter storm came and they didn't miss school at all. The weather was cooler, but not too bad. The parks and resorts still looked like Christmas when we arrived on 1/1, which was lovely. But those first few days were crowded and expensive because it was part of the busiest week of the year. It still wasn't too bad because we had lightning lanes for most things and sit-down dining to rest in-between. I've even been during Thanksgiving week, but I think traveling home on the weekend after is too fraught with issues. Maybe stay for part of the following week if you go.
