I dislike Harvard for a number of reasons but everyone I know who has benefited from their admissions policy was a MAGA applying from a rural town in a deep red state. The applicants, of course, are completely ignorant to the fact that they were a diversity admit. Because of course they are.
How do you know these people and now others? In DMV?
I’ve lived in 12 cities in 8 states and two other countries. I’ve worked in rural red states for illiterate patients who don’t have health insurance and socialized with DC’s power circle. My life is no bubble.
No one you know in DC's power circle went to Harvard? Or they didn't "benefit" from Harvard's policy because they look like someone who deserves to be there?
They benefited by being rich and connected. That’s not a DEI admissions policy. That’s been true since they opened their doors.
And I’ll add, you seem to be confused about my point. White, rural, red state admits with lower than average stats get admitted in the spirit of diversity, but they SO don’t understand DEI, they don’t realize they benefited from it. They think *they* were admitted on merit. Typical of modern republicans. I am all for DEI. And I am disgusted by the advantage that rich, connected people have in all admissions.
Harvard should do the funniest thing - just shut out all the rich & politico families for the next 5 years. Only allow in kids with 1600 SATs. It will be 75% Asian after 5 years and wealthy MAGAs will be HOWLING.
Why do you think MAGA will be upset about admissions being merit based? We aren’t the party that freaks out over Asians being both bright and successful.
100% if it turned out this way (T10 colleges being 75% Asian), you'd see MAGA heads explode and want to cut immigration from Asian countries, and want more "holistic" approaches like location because most of the Asian Americans live in a handful of metro areas. Most of us realize that MAGA are going after brown skin people because they are the easier targets today. Once they find a final solution to that problem, they will turn onto the next group. -Asian American whose kid got a 1600 SAT score on their first try.
The legacy lacrosse, crew, horsey, and football families would be foaming at the mouth if their kids got shut out of the Ivies. Country Club MAGA is absolutely a thing. And it would be funny if Harvard was like "Alright we a going full-speed Gaokao, buckle up." Harvard would be completely Asian and Eastern-European within five years. It would be an entirely new class of elites.
Going to Harvard doesn't make you elite. Going to Harvard is something elites do. Asians are already taking over corporate America.
Elites go to Ivies. Period. Every elite Republican is an Ivy grad. You know who wasn’t an elite Ivy grad? Joe Biden. And you despised him.
