Omaha swings from R+30 (2021) to D+13 (2025) in mayoral election, rejecting incumbent. In Omaha Dems have 40-33 edge in party affiliation (54%-45% if you ignore independents), but this time independents in Omaha split 60-40 in favor of the Democrat John Ewing Jr. Middle class people in middle America with moderate political views are sick of modern MAGA and MAGA-enabling Republicanism. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/2025_Omaha_mayoral_election Funny interview from last year here: https://www.newschannelnebraska.com/story/50615174/stothert-running-again-ready-to-vote-for-trump
Omaha is kind of conservative, but they are sane and educated. I happy about this but not totally shocked.
Omaha is interesting because there's a big flock of people from high COL states moving to the big cities and outskirts of big cities in lower COL states. I have several friends who have moved to Omaha recently from DC and NYC. There was even a thread on the Off Topic board asking why so many people were moving on Omaha. I just visited my good friend's who moved to Omaha, and honestly? It's not a bad area at all. I was shocked. It's a big city and gives off big city vibes. Plus, the house they bought would easily be over $1mil in our area and they closed $30k under asking at $385k. They moved from a condo in Reston that was $440k and that is all they could afford in this area.
Do your part to keep Omaha nice by f--king off back to wherever the hell you live.
Nah, dawg. I'm gonna take my wads of liberal cash and buy up all kinds of property in your crappy, BFE towns and then only rent the properties out to liberals fleeing high COL areas. The blue spread is coming for ya! And buy up a bunch of failing farms for pennies and sell to some data center. The Midwest is the new hot location for data centers. I'm part of a few liberal groups and we've learned a thing or two from studying red states. The population of most red states like Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, etc. is so sparse that if we densely pack the big cities with lots of libs, we can flip the states. Take Virginia, for example, the state is red until the NOVA counties roll in during elections. Where does most of the population of VA live? NOVA. What's that saying you guys like to use? "YoU'rE pLaYiNg ChEcKeRs AnD wE'rE pLaYiNg ChEsS."
