I’m against generational blame and warring, but damn if I’m not disappointed in my own GenX for being more MAGA than any of the others. I don’t think I’ll ever understand how so many sadly turned into haters and traitors, when we were independent, free thinkers, who just wanted to be left alone from overreach.
I’m older Gen X, and also disappointed in my generation. In the 80s, so many movies and TV shows had a teenage male hero who wanted to go to an Ivy League college and make a killing on Wall Street (Ferris Bueller, Risky Business, Family Ties, etc.) That was the model being held up for us. Hippies were out, greed was in. Kids walked around with popped collars and Vuarnet sunglasses praising Reagan. Those are the people now voting MAGA.
I’m a younger gen x and all I can think is these people are thinking that “Hoggish Greedly” was one of the good guys in Captain Planet. I had to google the name but at least it fits.
Gordon Gecko was supposed to be a cautionary tale, but became a role model.
