My teen is up-to-date on everything except HPV. We held off because she is having some autoimmune health issues. What is the latest age you would feel comfortable giving it to your child? I know the later we wait, the more shots she may have to get to be fully protected, but she is willing to do that because her immune system is compromised right now.
Leave it to her. Explain it then let her decide. If she's not sexually active with intercourse, she could wait till college or later.
With today’s teens, they are extremely um, well informed, about pregnancy and sex at much much earlier ages. They have all seen clips from Teen Mom. And they have all been exposed to porn; on a friends phone if not there own. So for most the “intercourse” part comes later, but they first engage in oral or anal; often unprotected because they know they can’t get pregnant that way. It’s the most common first step and many times, they aren’t even dating the other person (I know, weird to our generation. But that’s how it is now). HPV can sometimes be transmitted through oral. I would have her vaccinated asap. It will protect her.
