White American is an ethnicity, and insisting it's not is just perpetuating the idea that white Americans are the only "regular," unremarkable ones and everyone else is "different." Like, I'm sure you can see the problem with telling an immigrant kid that her parents' food is "ethnic food" and OP's kid's lunch is "normal food." It's the *exact* same problem if you tell OP not to bring what her family eats. [/quote]
