I will say given that you said they are interested in medical research, look closely at Pitt. They were $40K COA for us (20K merit), and my kid will be attending there. They are top 10 in the US in biomedical research funding, very good reputation in medical anything because of UPMC system all around the campus, and kids seem super happy there.
