OP it’s definitely your irrational fear. I’m not downplaying that, and I think it’s great that you get treatment for it. And I absolutely get why news about a plane crash would be a very real and important factor for how much fear you have to deal with. But no, your actual risk from flying commercially has not changed in any meaningful way. So you have a real anxiety problem to really address in whatever way you and your doctors think is best, but not a real planes problem.
I also hear the fear that OP has expressed and the recent incidents have definitely increased my anxiety as well but I think trying to keep it in perspective that overall, the risk is extremely low and much lower than other forms of transportation (specifically driving). I would say to OP that you should weigh whether your anxiety will be so high that you are not able to have fun planning and preparing for this trip vs. planning a different trip this summer. I remember during summer 2020, I REALLY needed to get out and go to someplace special to us (Maine) for my mental health as I was working in healthcare and parenting very young kids. We took extreme precautions but the stress of planning, getting all our covid tests, and all the measures during any stops made it stressful but tbh, once we got there we had an incredible trip and we were safe, others were safe, and we NEEDED that sense of safety and normalcy in the moment for our mental health. It helped us get through the coming year. This is definitely different but similar with the heightened stress before. Just decide what you need to feel healthy and happy (as long as that also respects others of course)
