I don't want to hijack this thread but can you recommend some nice restaurants?  I am going there for work soon and need some good restaurant to take clients to. Downtown area preferred.[/quote]

For a client dinner in Center City, Alpen Rose or Butcher & Singer if you want a traditional impressive steakhouse. Barclay Prime is also excellent (and the classic fancy Philly steakhouse) but I love the Butcher & Singer space especially. It’s an old bank and is really beautiful. Spice Finch is Mediterranean and also quite good/a nice atmosphere if you’re looking for something different. Also the Vernick restaurants (Vernick Food & Drink, Vernick Fish) are also very good. Estia is also nice.

For a family dinner/visit, I highly recommend any of the Marcie Turney establishments - Little Nonna’s is really excellent red sauce Italian, Barbuzzo is Mediterranean/Italian and probably my favorite Philly restaurant (please get the whipped ricotta), Darling Jack’s is good elevated bar food. They are all within a block of each other. Also on that block is Pearl & Mary (great oyster bar and a good happy hour, but not kid friendly if that’s important) and El Vez, which is fun and has solid Mexican.

Parc is also a Philly classic, with great people watching and cocktails. I love eating there but at least try to pop in for a drink. It’s a really cute vibe and is right on Rittenhouse Square, which is my most favorite place to sit with a coffee. Also around there are Metropolitan Bakery (truly excellent flourless chocolate cake, but everything is good) and Marathon on the Square (kid friendly, basic menu, but executed extremely well). Down the block is my favorite neighborhood place, Trattoria Carina, which is great for a date/couple’s dinner. Walnut Street Cafe also has a very good happy hour and it’s a beautiful space; it’s a convenient place to stop by after a walk down the river train or if you’re strolling back from University City. Also, for more casual delicious food, stop by DiBruno Bros. (the Rittenhouse location is my favorite), a specialty Italian market that is very reasonably priced, and Reading Terminal Market. At Reading, my favorites are DiNic’s (their roast pork/broccoli rabe/provolone sandwich is the best sandwich in the world) and Famous 4th Street Cookies, but I don’t think it’s possible to eat poorly there.
