Some of you would have most certainly been calling folks marching, boycotting buses, and occupying lunch counters, and staging sit-ins performative and pointless and it shows. As a LAMB parent, my first concern were the families who can't take time off and can't find or afford childcare, but within hours, the parents where in the group chat for our classroom community making sure all the families had childcare. It's called showing up for your community- classroom and beyond.
Sorry did you not realize that the people who were marching, occupying lunch counters, and staging sit-ins left their homes? The teachers are just staying home. How is this helping?
For real? It would be pretty sleazy if LAMB said it is closing so that teachers and staff could attend this protest and then they didnt actually bother to go.
The protest IS to stay home. The idea is for immigrants not to go to work/not to spend money on this day, in order to demonstrate what life without immigrants would be like. Non-immigrants staying home is not solidarity; in fact I'd argue that it kind of defeats the purpose. Unless LAMB already knows they're going to be severely understaffed, it doesn't make sense to close. And I kind of doubt they would have been understaffed. I tried googling for more information on this protest and all I got was a couple of social media posts, this thread, and news articles from when they did it in 2017.
My understanding in talking with a teacher is that over half of the teachers and BASE staff were taking the day off. They had no choice but to cancel school. and
