I just got the private rates for the Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF) on the Catholic "wellness campus" where my parents are currently in Independent Living. It's $605 PER NIGHT for one person!! They are currently paying about $5k/month for a 2 bedroom apt in Independent Living (IL) bu my mom will have to go the SNF very soon. So they'll be paying $24k per month for the 2 of them. They have $300k in house proceeds and $400k in an IRA which won't last that long at those rates. Yikes.
the cost goes for $5k per month for 2BR (seems like a great price) to $24k per month for skilled nursing?
Yeah, isn't that crazy? I think that's why I'm so shocked. They landed on this "campus" after my dad had a stroke - he spent a short time in rehab, then a 2 month stint in Assisted Living (a studio was $6k/month, which seemed reasonable) and then to Independent Living where my mom joined him. I never thought the SNF could be so much more expensive. Maybe they're compensating for too many people in Medicaid beds?
Hmm. I think the extra fee is due to the ccrc. Most SNF beds that I looked at that were stand alone and not attached to a CCR were at the 450-480/day cost. NOVA
