I think you’re on the hook for tuition, but reach out to the financial aid office for emergency aid based on your medical bills. As other posters have said, they probably have a policy against tuition forgiveness to avoid claims that they’re cherry picking when to enforce a contract and when not to, but giving you aid is up to their discretion.
This. Of course the school has to enforce contracts to protect their budget, but this is where you see the humanity in a school. Do they have other financial resources they can tap to help? Can they try to fill the seat to offset the budget impact? Can they help with a fundraiser for you? (You can certainly do it privately like a GoFundMe and be clear that it’s for expenses incurred by Larla’s illness) If they will do none of these, then ask how they plan to accommodate your child’s educational rights as an enrolled, tuition-paying student. Tell them if you need to pay for the spot then you’ll continue to send her. Advise she’ll be attending sporadically/irregularly and will need some physical accommodations that you’ll medically document for them. They will see that that’s going to be hard to manage and may become more willing to work with you.
