Between all of my HS kids we have done the following (all in the past 3 years): PE9 with FCPS ACE PE9 with VVA PE10 with FCPS ACE Year Round AP Classes with VVA Here are my thoughts on VVA vs ACE (make a long story short - VVA is by far the better choice): To do VVA, the counselor needs to approve during winter/spring during course selection time and the counselor is actually the one who has to register the student - parent cannot do the VVA registration. Don't let them tell you they can't register you - my kids' guidance counselor served as their "mentor" and they don't actually have to do anything during the class although they will get cc:ed on a bunch of emails. The VVA class is better because it has more reasonable physical activity requirements (need to get 150 minutes per week of any activity, tracked on a spreadsheet as opposed to 60 mins physical activity every day with tracked heart rate in specific range and documented. Also FCPS ACE will not allow physical activities such as swim or dance, even if your kids is spending hours a day doing those activities because their heart rate has to be proved using a fitness tracker. VVA allows coaches to sign off on activity as proof. Also, VVA does not have synchronous class requirements like FCPS ACE. With FCPS, if you miss 2 synchronous classes, you are automatically unenrolled from the class. With VVA, they have a set class time, but you can log in any time during that day to watch the class and do the work. It's much better for the unpredictability of summer schedules. The only downside to VVA is that for HPE10 they do not offer the Driver Ed component so you would have to take that and pay for it separately on your own. For this reason, we did FCPS ACE for HPE10.
