I just returned from picking my DD up for Christmas-Winter break. She is graduating in the Spring and her transformation over the course of her time at Loyola has been pretty amazing. She has matured as a student - takes great pride in her academic efforts and seems to have an active social life. My DD will tell you it’s a bar school vs a frat school. Im not sure I am a fan of either but I try to keep an open mind. My sense is that most if not all of the students have fake ids and the weekends are spent at different bars and clubs in both Baltimore and Towson. Granted that’s not everybody but I suspect a decent portion of the student body. Our family went to dinner in Fells Point -it’s a nice spot - and my DD ran into a group of her friends. While walking on campus she ran into some friends and others said hello while walking past. They were all polite and friendly. I’d like to think she has had a nice college experience. I am happy with her education and the way she has applied herself. I consider myself an advocate of Loyola Maryland after my family’s experience and I would encourage you to take a hard look.
Thanks for sharing. I am a new poster whose kid is also considering these two schools. I am interested in your comments about the social scene. How do kids meet and hang out other than the bar scene? My kid is a very sweet, little bit shy sporty boy. His idea of socializing is playing pickup soccer and then watching a football game with a group of friends. Never say never but it's hard for me to picture him doing the Fake ID bar scene. When we visited I felt like there was a very friendly low key social vibe at Loyola? Do you think this is a fit for my kid?
