Rosemary Hills isn’t the best but it’s fine. Principal is ok but I haven’t had much interaction.

Last week we were notified at 3:35 that four buses would not run and kids needed to be picked up. After scrambling to get there (only because another parent told me about this), I was told our  bus would make some stops but not all. It’s a mess. Takes about an hour to get home on a good day. Takes me 12 minutes so 60 minutes is too long. That’s MCPS Transportation though not RHES. Principal offered no explanation or info but often MCPS ties their hands.

Middle and high schools are [b]trying to ban phones[/b]. Yes they are disruptive at times but they save lives during shootings. You WILL have lockdowns at mcps and once you get the “I am hiding in a closet and I love you” text, you will fight to keep cell phones in school. If you join MCPS, keep cell phones in mind as part of the security plan (not for for k-2 obviously).

Stop spreading misinformation. No one is trying to BAN phones. Geezus. Students can bring phones. They will simply be asked to store it away in a pocket pouch, in their own pouch/binder during class time, and will get it back before they leave a class. For some reason if a phone is seen out, teacher or staff can take it away and student can pick up the phone at front office. It's simple, parent your kid and it'll be fine  :roll: [/quote]

The magnetic pouches render phones useless in an emergency. Did you know that?

Teachers should collect phones in each class if they become a problem but the locked pouches or putting in lockers is a terrible idea and yes, there are people lobbying for that.

You may not be as familiar with this at the middle and high school level but the movement to ban them (or make inaccessible does exist).

Teachers do not get info from admin during lockdowns. Do you know how kids find out the lockdown is over??? Often it’s the parents who text their kids who tell teachers when they are locked in closets. Ask me how I know.

And don’t come for a parent who’s been through this. Have you texted your kid hiding in a kiln or a closet crying because apparently someone with a gun is in the halls? Have you had a school shooting? Bomb threat? Kids in your school arrested for murder? Other MCPS parents have and are more qualified to speak about it than you. [/quote]

I think they're before. Anybody actually has a conversation about school safety. They should volunteer to be part of a school lockdown drill. During when students are instructed to lock the doors, cover windows and hide in silence. A kid who is trying to call 911 would be a potential danger to themselves or others. [/quote]
