An Emory rejection does not mean a student won’t get any to other similarly or ever. More highly ranked schools. My kid was rejected from several schools last year that were lower ranked than schools where they were accepted. OP - your kid does not have to ED2 to an “easier admit”. Cast a wise and balanced net and wait for RD success!
Are you the author of the ED post last week with the hooked kid you didn’t want to admit was hooked? It certainly doesn’t mean that, but the most common mistake is people overshooting repeatedly.
I don’t know what post you’re referring to, or why it matters. I think the most common mistake in this environment is not casting a wide enough net. It’s a numbers game. If you have the stats, apply (with balanced safeties and targets). You can’t get a yes from anywhere where you don’t apply.
You’d be wrong. The biggest mistake is kids wasting applications on low probability schools. Nothing wrong with doing so if your kid has the stamina for endless applications or the stomach for lots of rejections, but most kids don’t.
Well, I’ve been through this and no, I’m not wrong. My kid got lots of rejections. And lots of waitlists. And it was VERY difficult to go through. But….they got several great admissions in RD as well! If they’d done an ED2 they would not have ended up where they did (no schools that offer ED2 were attractive to them). There’s no need to rush. We are really happy with how it went for them and that’s all I hope for all of these kids who are working so hard! Your hostility is very weird. Take a deep breath. It will all work out.
