It's ridiculous. But among US presidents, George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Teddy Roosevelt, FDR, and JFK were all incredibly wealthy men when they took office. There's an assumption in American politics that the super rich aren't beholden to special interests. Barack Obama and Bill Clinton had fairly normal finances when they were elected. Today, Obama and Clinton are among the richest men in America. They are each worth more than a quarter billion dollars - all of it "earned" when they left office. Who really is more corrupt? The person that comes in to power rich, or the person that leaves it super rich?
But at least they understood where regular people were coming from when they started their Presidency. People who have been rich all their lives really don’t know what it’s like to live in the real world.
What are your sources? This article says Obama is worth 70 mill. Still a lot but nowhere near the “quarter billion” you mentioned. Also, I don’t know why you have quotes around earned. Are you implying that he is corrupt? He earned it the following way: “Barack Obama’s net worth in 2024 comes from various sources. These include his presidential salary and pension, book deals, podcast deals, Netflix deals, speaking engagements, and real estate investments.” “For his book “For A Promised Land,” released in November 2020, Obama secured a $65 million deal with Penguin Random House, which also included a memoir by Michelle Obama. The book sold 3.3 million copies in its first month, becoming a top-selling political memoir.”
Again, Obama didn't have any money until AFTER his presidency.
