Wakefield has won the Virginia state championship on the girls side the last few years. The best FCPS girls program is probably Woodson.
How is that possible? According to Langley crew: https://www.langleycrew.com/ 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2021 and 2024 State Champions https://www.fairfaxtimes.com/articles/sports/langley-high-school-crew-rows-into-its-30th-season/article_1c04a5b4-cf35-11ed-8da3-af8d17fb899f.html Langley crew has captured state championships every year since 2012
Are those Langley championships for the varsity 8 boats? According to the Wakefield Crew Boosters website “Wakefield has built a legacy of success. In 2024, the girls first varsity 8 won the state championships for the 4th year in a row,”
No, Langley isn’t fielding Varsity 8 boats. The best boys programs in recent years among NoVa publics have been McLean, West Springfield, and Wakefield.
Thanks! This is the info I have been looking for.
Now get your unathletic kid on one of these teams so he can get that coveted ivy hook
He is quite athletic, thanks. Has the right body type too. But yes, the Ivy hook is indeed the goal here, thanks.
Then don’t worry about a high school program and have him join Potomac or TBC. The club teams (and summer club in particular) will give him the opportunities that matter to Ivy recruiting. And obviously his erg 2k time + body type
Put another way, the VA HS teams are only relevant if they are legitimately good teams nationally. Ivy schools don't care much about public school state titles, since clearly private schools dominate much of crew. You should look at the VA HS state times and compare to Stotesbury winning times...seems like if these teams don't even participate in these large, HS regattas that they aren't serious programs in the scheme of things.
Dc area public high schools are very competitive at Stotes
