The catholic church has a history of protecting sexual predators and moving them around to other locations to pretend that there was no problem. And the problem didn't really go away - it simply exploded into their face in the recent past. They realized that they must frown upon it because they would not get away with it anymore. [/quote]

I think this PP makes a good point.  You can get fired for having an affair with a consenting adult, but for years the Catholic Church protected pedophiles by moving them around.
