Are grades final at this point? What we are seeing in parent view are final grades and shouldn’t really change at this point? Looks like our HS is still doing 50% for All Task grades which surprised me since I thought MCPS got rid of it
It’s 50% if you turn something in. 0 if you don’t.
At the highschool where I teach, we are strongly encouraged to give 50% for assignments that were never turned in
Strongly encouraged by who and why? How is it helpful to students?
Let’s just say we are coerced by administrators and principal to give 50% for assignments that were never submitted. The administrators at my school are masters of spin. I don’t believe they really care about the students all that much as most of them are focused on moving up the ladder as fast as possible
I know you can’t name the school, but what are the demographics and/or reputation of the school? From what you know, is this pretty common among all schools?
The poster is a troll
Different PP but I’m required to give 50% at my school. It’s setting them up for a rude awakening. Middle school is where they should be learning time management. If they aren’t in a high school course, then a couple of zeros usually gets kids on a path of learning how to use time better in class. It won’t affect their high school gpa and better study skills will only benefit them as they move through their academic career. But what do I know. I’m just a lowly teacher that sees the lack of effort now. Students think they are all set for high school with inflated grades. They should go to standards based and lower class sizes if they are worried about students not passing. Right now we are just scooting them out the door. This is the future that will be taking care of us and we are setting them up for a much harder time. Admin at MCPS are more worried about themselves and optics. All are trash IMO. Sorry. But not really.
